Make-Up Product of the Week – MAC Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick & Lipglass Review

Published March 3, 2014 by heelsandbags

20140303-223444.jpg

I have to admit, I have never purchased any Viva Glam items from MAC before and the Rihanna collection was my first.

I usually find the Viva Glam colours either unwearable for me, or I already have dupes so I don’t bother.
This season though, I was quite fond of the MAC & Riri collaboration and I was curious about the 2 Viva Glam items.

So the collection consists of 2 items, a lipstick and a lipglass. I purchased only the lipglass.
I wanted the lipstick too, but I already have so many shades of red that I told myself to save the money for something else instead.

We’ll begin with the lipstick anyhow…
First & foremost, for all of you that are new to MAC & Viva Glam, you should know that all Viva Glam items are sold to donate money to help cure aids.
Every cent of every Viva Glam sale goes towards fighting aids so you’re already helping out just by making a purchase.

This lipstick is called Viva Glam Rihanna.
It’s in a frost finish which means it has a slightly metallic sheen to it.

The colour is a spot on strawberry red. Not so much blue based and not so much yellow based either, but more in between. It’s quite a nice shade and if you’re looking for a pleasant wearable red, this is it. It’s quite hydrating too so that’s a plus.
What I like most is that frost finish. I’ve noticed that lately, most red lipsticks by MAC are in a matte formula and that can be quite drying on the lips so it’s nice to see a nice red in a different formula.

The lipglass on the other hand is quite different to the lipstick.
In fact, the only thing in common with it’s lipstick counterpart is the name.

Though the lipglass looks like a strong red, it’s actually quite sheer. It’s like a strawberry pinkish red, on the sheer side with plenty of gold and pink shimmer in it.
It is gorgeous and applies quite easily.
It’s gives your lips more of a natural red colour than the expected candy apple red. It’s very wearable regardless of occasion and is a great shade of red for those of you who are beginners with bright colours.

With red lips, I always tend to stick to lipsticks over glosses, mainly because the glosses get so sticky and all over the place, and with a bright full on red, that can be a mess.
A good lipstick over liner is usually my favourite way to wear red.

However, here with MAC Viva Glam Rihanna, we have two very wearable reds in 2 different formulas for beginners or pros.
Take your pick.

Purchase yours from the MAC website or from eBay starting from as low as $30.

Oroton ‘The Lido’ Medium Tote Review

Published March 2, 2014 by heelsandbags

20140302-144925.jpg

This gorgeous piece of arm candy is Oroton’s ‘The Lido’ Medium Tote, pictured above in the latest season colour of Indigo.

Pictured below, it’s also available in Black and also Antique White.

The Lido is one of Oroton’s classic bags which gets revamped every season in new colours. It’s one of those bags that never go out of style, and of course, thanks to Oroton’s exquisite craftsmanship, it’s a bag that will last a lifetime.

The Lido, made from pebble grain leather, features a gathered opening and custom designed hardware.
This medium tote is ideal for use as an every day bag and secures with a gather knot. It’s the perfect bag to take you from work to weekend.

The bag has one main compartment, and inside there are 2 small pockets on the front wall and a zipped compartment on the back wall.
On the front of the bag is a second compartment that does up with a flap over closure.

The Lido also comes with a detachable shoulder strap.
Measurements without the strap are:
39w x 27h x 13d cms.

The Lido retails at Oroton for $695 and though this may seem a little on the hefty side, this bag is an investment piece as it’ll never ever go out of style and is so versatile that you’ll be carrying it with every outfit.

I’m loving the Indigo as it’s a gorgeous splash of colour on such a lovely bag however if you want to get more use out of it, I’d recommend you go for the black or white.

You can also find second hand Lidos on eBay for under $350. Of course, please have a proper look at the bag before you bid to see how heavily it’s been used and always buy from a reputable seller.
Ask for more pics if you need to, and don’t forget, paying by Paypal will cover you with Buyer Protection.
Usually I don’t suggest Paypal too much, but on an item like this I’d highly recommend it as it’s a big ticket item and if the seller’s description varies… Well at least you’re covered.

Of course nothing’s as good as brand new, but you might be lucky enough to find a new one on eBay too !

Happy shopping girlies !

Oroton ‘Leather Mesh’ 1938 Medium Barrel Bag Review

Published March 1, 2014 by heelsandbags

20140301-123940.jpg

This is it. And when I say it, I mean the ‘it’ bag for this season.
It is the Leather Mesh 1938 Barrel Bag by Oroton.
Available in Gold or Silver, personally I can’t decide. I want both.

To me, the 1938 barrel is simply the best bag ever. The style is classic yet modern, simple but stylish and this leather mesh look to it is just so on trend. It’s a fabulous revamp of a known classic.

So let’s get straight into it !
This bag is made from foil cut-out vegetable leather & oil vegetable leather.
It comes with an adjustable shoulder strap so it can be carried either on your arm or on the shoulder/cross-body, however you like.

The bag itself is quite roomy measuring 37w x 23h x 14d cms.
It easily fits everything you need in a daily handbag.

The main compartment has a zip closure.
Inside the bag, there is another smaller zip compartment on the back wall as well as 2 small pockets on the front wall.

The bag is adorned with custom designed black Oroton hardware including a gorgeous plaque on the front of the bag.

The 1938 Barrel bag is Oroton’s signature barrel bag and is named the 1938 to commemorate the year of Oroton’s foundation.

This bag retails for $495 and is available in Oroton stores and on the website which is http://www.oroton.com.au.

Whether you’re splurging or saving up for it, this is my absolute favourite handbag at the moment.

FEBRUARY 2014 MONTHLY

Published March 1, 2014 by heelsandbags

It’s been a while since my last post… I know. Life has been very hectic, plus my family suffered a major loss when my mother-in-law died from cancer at the beginning of this month. We weren’t prepared at all because we didn’t know she had cancer until 2 weeks before her death.
As I said. Life=hectic.

Enough depressing news though, let’s get straight into it !

As the weather begins to cool down in Oz, we are seeing the latest boots from Tony Bianco, and I must say, I am loving some, but some are ‘meh’.

The grunge look is here for Autumn so get your feet into some cool black boots with a chunky mid heel. The bonus with this trend is comfort !
The grungy boots on TB would have to be the ultimate blend of comfort & style, plus they’re perfect for rainy days because nothing gets through them and they’re easy to wipe down.
Team them up with your favourite jeans or mini + leggings & you’re set !

Oroton has launched a gorgeous new collection & I’m especially loving the new 1938 barrel bags. The gold or silver cutout ones are my ‘it’ bag for this season.
They’re just so versatile ! You can match them with your jewellery, dress them up or down and they’ll fit everything you need.
It’s no secret that the classic 1938 barrel bags are my favourite !

MAC is launching some great new collections too.
Recently, I got a lipstick & a mineralize blush from their new ‘Fantasy of Flowers’ collection.
The lipstick I got, which is called ‘Dreaming Dahlia’ is a lovely corally orangey red colour. It’s in a lustre finish and is quite sheer, so it looks awesome on, but the winner of the collection is definitely the blush.

The one I got, called ‘Petal Power’, is my ultimate blush & I’m so glad I found it. It is a beautiful shade of rosy pink with a hint of corally bronze and it has a golden sheen to it.
After years of always buying Skinfinishes & using them as blushes, I’m so happy that I’ve finally found my perfect shade.
It’s definitely the one to try. The colour is so lovely and would suit pretty much all skin tones. And what I love most ?
You can’t stuff up with it. It’s a bit on the sheer side and it’s buildable.

When it comes to fashion, I’m not going to get into it too deep because you all know my style.
Classic, stylish & versatile. Trends come & go so quickly so instead of spending all your money on buying everything of that trend, just buy a couple of items. Invest your money on key classic staples like the ultimate pair of sexy jeans or a good expensive coat. Then just add your trendy item like that neon blouse, to your outfit and you’re set !

So all in all, Autumn/Winter is setting in !
Choose your boots & your arm candy, get your warpaint on and dive straight in !
